20 Worst-Named Phones and Tablets

These days it’s just not good enough to give your phone or tablet an unassuming name like the RX-5050 or M3420e.  Instead, mobile device makers spend their days masterminding memorable monikers that are supposed to generate buzz. More often, though, they cause static or confusion. Here are the very worst of the lot.

Ainovo Novo7 Swordman

Like a knock-off breakfast cereal made by "Keylogs," the Ainovo brand sounds like it was designed to fool shoppers into thinking they're getting a Lenovo. But because one "novo" in the name is one too few, the Chinese OEM that makes this cheap tablet added another one for good measure. Don't ask us what the Swordman part means. Though we haven’t crossed blades with this slate, the more boring Ainovo Novo7 Basic's creaky plastic casing and slow speeds didn't impress.

This list seems to be compiled from a random collection of gadgets. How can you fault the Galaxy Tab 2 for using the number “2″ and then also fault Apple for *not* using a number for the 3rd gen iPad? Likewise, your rationale that people would have confused HP’s TouchPad with a PC peripheral is laughable. The flat, touch-sensitive surface on your laptop is generically referred to as a “trackpad” not a “touchpad” so I doubt anyone would have been put off.

Forgot one ….Surface by Microsoft. When I
First saw that name I had to triple check that
I was reading it correctly , because it was ” that dumb”

  3. Jomana Says:

Nokia Lumia is probably the dumbest of them all !!

  4. Sean F Says:

Surprised y’all didn’t catch the Samsung Smiley (literally branded as the ‘Samsung :) ’ in some ads).

  5. Stephen Says:

Simon, in my experience people where I’m from often refer to the touch-sensitive surface on a laptop as touchpads.

    How about the HTC ChaCha?

How could you leave out Nook?
